Two Violet Crown racers won their age groups. Frank Kurzawa bested everyone up the corkscrew on the last lap and stayed in front all the way to the finish line in the 50-54 race, also beating all of the 55-59 racers in the same race. Steve James does not like racing in a crowded crit pack so he raced "his way" by taking off like a rabbit at the start and never slowing down for the 45 minute 60-64 and up race. At the end, he finished 55 seconds ahead of the pack of 60-64, 65-69 and 70+ racers. When asked why he raced a crit in that manner, he replied, "I'm a time-trialer not a sprinter." Of special note, although she does not officially race for VC, Donna LaKomski ( long-time VC member and wife of VC treasurer Greg LaKomski) deserves recognition for winning the Womens' 50-54 race.
